Baby Luke

Preemie
Our precious little #2 decided he was in a rush to join us at 34 1/2 weeks on Thurs December 4th. I got up early that morning around 6am feeling not quite right and seemed to be leaking... sure enough- TWICE now I fell into the small percentage of women whose water breaks before labor. I did pretty well not panicking at that point, got Dave to come home, and packed to go in. They started Pitocin since I wasn't contracting too much- at 4pm I was still a depressing 2cm. By 6 I was about 5. I finally caved and got the epidural (which hurt more than my labor this time around- figures) at 7:45 I was 7 and by 8:15 I was ready to go- Baby luke was born at 8:32pm- 5lb 8oz 18in. He came out trying to cry and was screaming by the time they had him on the warmer. It didn't last long though. They whisked him away quickly since he's so little and early to go to the nursery. We got to see him for a little bit on our way through to our room. The worst feeling ever for sure to be on this side of things... once Dave left I'd barely dozed off then the doctor and nurses came in to tell me they were transferring him out to the city because he wasn't breathing well on his own. I think from birth until now, this is the first time I've actually stopped crying. I got myself discharged early today so I could go to the city and see my new little person- he was still intubated, but the doctor on told me he was doing much better and they were hopeful to get the tube out tonight. They will still treat him for a week with antibiotics. I'm still sad he is so far away and for what seems so long. I'm hoping he'll get his act together and not have to stay much longer than those 7 days. Cross your fingers for us. Here is a picture- he finally opened his eyes for me. He looks a little bit like his big brother, but has much darker coloring.

Kat, he's beautiful! His hair does look a bit darker than Ben's. You 4 are in my prayers. PLEASE let me know if there is anything I can do for you. CJ and Ben will love playing together so dont hesitate to let me know if you need me to take him for a little bit!! XO XO hang in there, this will only make you and Dave stronger.

Oh Kat, this has to be so wonderful and so hard for you at the same time. I'll be thinking of you and baby Luke (congrats on another adorable boy, by the way!). Keep us posted on everything.
